Adult ADHD Assessment
A comprehensive ADHD assessment pathway for adults, including psychological assessment, appropriate testing and a detailed written report.
Comprehensive ADHD assessment, detailed psychological testing and professional reporting for children and adults, led by Justin Mangion, Psychologist, at our clinic in Mosta, Malta.

We recognise that ADHD is much more than difficulty concentrating — it can affect organisation, emotional regulation, impulsivity, relationships, academic performance, employment, confidence and everyday functioning.
For this reason, our ADHD assessment process is designed to build a detailed picture of the individual rather than relying on a single questionnaire or appointment. Assessments are led by Justin Mangion, Psychologist, who has extensive experience in psychological assessment and works closely with the wider Prijorità clinical team.
Each package covers the full structured assessment pathway, appropriate psychological testing and a detailed written report.

A comprehensive ADHD assessment pathway designed specifically for children and young people, incorporating information from the child, parents or caregivers and, where appropriate, the educational environment. The assessment includes appropriate psychological testing and a detailed written report.
ADHD can sometimes be difficult to identify because its symptoms can overlap with other psychological, developmental and medical difficulties. Problems with concentration, organisation or emotional regulation do not automatically mean that someone has ADHD.
A comprehensive assessment therefore looks beyond individual symptoms. The purpose is to develop a clearer understanding of the person's presentation and determine whether their pattern of difficulties is consistent with ADHD or whether other factors should also be considered.
ADHD does not only affect children. Many adults reach adulthood without having been formally assessed, particularly when their difficulties were previously interpreted as personality traits, poor organisation, lack of motivation or simply being easily distracted.
For some people, difficulties become more noticeable when responsibilities increase — for example when starting university, progressing professionally, managing a household or becoming a parent. A comprehensive assessment can help determine whether ADHD may explain these longstanding patterns.
The assessment begins by developing a detailed understanding of the difficulties you are experiencing. ADHD is a developmental condition, so understanding whether relevant difficulties were present earlier in life forms an important part of assessment. This may explore:
Justin will use appropriate psychological assessment methods and validated measures according to the individual's needs. Assessment is not based on one questionnaire alone — information from different parts of the assessment is considered together to develop a comprehensive clinical picture. Where clinically appropriate, additional information or documentation may also be requested.
Once the assessment information and testing have been completed, the findings are carefully reviewed and interpreted. This stage considers both ADHD-related symptoms and other factors that may contribute to the difficulties being experienced. The objective is to provide a clinically meaningful assessment rather than simply generating a test score.
Following completion of the assessment, a comprehensive written psychological report is prepared. The report brings together the relevant history, assessment findings, testing and professional interpretation, and where appropriate may contain recommendations regarding further support or next steps. This report provides clear documentation of the findings.
Assessing ADHD in children requires a particularly comprehensive approach. Children behave differently depending on their environment, and difficulties may present differently at home, at school and in other settings. For this reason, Prijorità's child ADHD assessment pathway considers information from multiple sources, rather than relying exclusively on what happens during an appointment.
The assessment begins with a detailed consultation with the child's parent or caregiver. Parents know their child extremely well, and their observations are an important part of understanding the child's overall presentation. This provides an opportunity to discuss:
The child then participates in an age-appropriate assessment process with Justin. Depending on the child's age and individual needs, this may include interviews, structured activities, psychological testing and other appropriate assessment methods. The objective is to understand not only areas of difficulty but also the child's strengths and overall pattern of functioning.
ADHD symptoms need to be considered across different environments. Where appropriate, structured questionnaires may be completed by parents or caregivers and by teachers or other relevant educational professionals. A child who struggles significantly in the classroom may present very differently in a one-to-one clinical setting, which is why information from school can be particularly valuable.
Once all relevant information has been collected, Justin reviews the assessment findings together. The aim is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the child rather than considering individual results in isolation. This may include:
A comprehensive psychological report is prepared following completion and interpretation of the assessment. The report brings together the information obtained throughout the process and documents the assessment findings. Our goal is for families to leave the assessment process with more than a label — they should have a clearer understanding of their child's needs and appropriate next steps. Where appropriate, recommendations may address:
A high-quality ADHD assessment should answer more than "does this person have ADHD?" — it should also answer what they are experiencing, how it is affecting their life, and what support may help them moving forward.
Every individual has a different combination of strengths, challenges, circumstances and support needs. This is why our assessments combine professional judgement, psychological testing, clinical information and detailed reporting.
Parents may consider seeking professional assessment when persistent difficulties are affecting their child's everyday functioning. Experiencing some of these behaviours does not automatically mean a child has ADHD — assessment helps determine whether the pattern, duration and impact of the difficulties may be consistent with ADHD and whether other explanations should be considered.
Adults may experience ADHD differently from children. A professional assessment is required to determine whether these difficulties are related to ADHD or another factor. Common difficulties can include:
ADHD assessment and ADHD treatment are related but separate processes. Justin Mangion's role within this pathway focuses on psychological assessment, testing, interpretation and reporting.
Where the assessment indicates that further medical or psychiatric input may be appropriate, Prijorità can coordinate this through our multidisciplinary clinical team. Where clinically indicated, medical investigations such as blood tests or an ECG may also be recommended as part of the wider care pathway. Medication is only prescribed following appropriate medical assessment and clinical decision-making.
One of the advantages of undergoing an ADHD assessment at Prijorità is access to a wider mental health and medical team. This means that once an assessment is completed, patients and families can be guided towards appropriate next steps rather than being left to navigate the process alone.
Where required, care can involve coordinated input from psychological therapy and our wider clinical services:
Psychologist | ADHD Assessment Service, Mosta, Malta
Justin Mangion provides comprehensive psychological assessments for children and adults presenting with possible ADHD. His assessment approach is detailed, structured and individualised, with particular attention given to understanding how symptoms affect the person's functioning across different areas of life.
Rather than looking only at whether someone meets a checklist of ADHD symptoms, the assessment considers the wider clinical and psychological picture. For children, this includes understanding the child's development, behaviour, learning, family circumstances and functioning within their educational environment.
For adults, the assessment explores both current difficulties and relevant developmental history, recognising that ADHD symptoms may have been present for many years before an individual seeks formal assessment.
