Mental health support
when you need direction in Malta.
A dedicated mental health appointment designed to understand where you are right now, assess your current needs and help determine the most appropriate next step in your care.

Continuity of care
Mental health does not always follow a predictable path — and mental healthcare should not consist of isolated appointments with long periods of uncertainty in between.
There are times when you may be struggling but are unsure whether you need to see a psychiatrist immediately. You may already be receiving treatment but feel that something has changed. You may be waiting for a psychiatric review and need professional support in the meantime. Or you may simply need someone clinically trained to understand what you are experiencing and help you determine what should happen next.
This is why we developed KONTINWITÀ — providing patients with direct access to a mental health nurse with specific experience in mental health and trauma. It provides a professional clinical touchpoint where your current wellbeing can be explored and the appropriate next steps considered. It is about continuity of care. That is what KONTINWITÀ means.
What is KONTINWITÀ?
KONTINWITÀ is a dedicated mental health support appointment with a member of our specialised mental health nursing team. The appointment focuses specifically on how you are feeling and functioning at that particular point in time. Rather than waiting until your next psychiatric appointment when you are uncertain about what to do, KONTINWITÀ provides an additional point of professional contact.
During your appointment, the mental health nurse takes time to understand:
- What you are currently experiencing
- How you have been feeling recently
- Whether anything has changed
- Your current emotional state
- How you are managing day-to-day
- Any new or worsening concerns
- How your existing treatment or support is progressing
- Whether additional professional input may be required
- What the most appropriate next step may be
The aim is to help you feel supported, understood and appropriately directed within your care.
What happens during your appointment
Understanding how you are feeling
Your nurse will give you space to explain what has been happening and how you have been feeling. You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong or what type of professional you need — part of the purpose of KONTINWITÀ is to help clarify this.
Reviewing your current situation
Your current mental and emotional wellbeing can be explored in greater detail. Depending on your circumstances, this may include:
- Mood
- Anxiety
- Stress
- Sleep
- Emotional regulation
- Trauma-related difficulties
- Changes in behaviour
- Changes in everyday functioning
- Current pressures or significant events
- How you are coping
- Existing treatment
- Current support
- Concerns that have developed since your previous appointment
Assessing your current needs
The nurse will consider the information you provide and assess your current support needs within the scope of the service. An important part of KONTINWITÀ is helping determine what level of professional input may be appropriate next.
Determining the next step
You are not simply leaving the appointment having spoken about how you feel — the purpose is to provide support and direction. Depending on your circumstances, the next step may include:
- Continuing with your existing care plan
- Arranging another KONTINWITÀ appointment
- Bringing forward a psychiatric review where clinically appropriate and available
- Scheduling a routine psychiatric consultation
- Psychological support
- Further clinical assessment
- Medical review
- Referral to another appropriate professional or service
- Escalation to urgent or emergency services where necessary
Between psychiatric appointments
One of the most valuable roles of KONTINWITÀ is providing additional support between psychiatric consultations. Mental health can change between appointments.
KONTINWITÀ gives you somewhere to start. Your mental health nurse can assess your current situation and help determine whether your planned psychiatric follow-up remains appropriate or whether another step should be considered sooner.
You may find yourself thinking:
“My next psychiatric appointment isn't for a while, but I'm not sure whether I should wait.”
“Something has changed and I don't know if it is important.”
“I'm struggling more than I was at my last appointment.”
“I need to speak to someone who understands mental health.”
“I'm not sure whether I need another psychiatrist appointment yet.”
Trauma-informed mental health support
Our KONTINWITÀ service is delivered by a mental health professional with experience in mental health and trauma. We recognise that trauma can affect people in different ways and that discussing difficult experiences requires sensitivity, respect and professional understanding.
You will not be expected to disclose more than you are comfortable discussing. The focus is on understanding your current wellbeing, what you are experiencing and what support may be appropriate.
More than a check-in
KONTINWITÀ is not intended to be simply a general conversation. It is a structured mental health support appointment delivered by a professional with mental health expertise. You are not simply checking in — we are checking what you may need next.
Who is KONTINWITÀ for?
KONTINWITÀ may be particularly helpful if:
- You are already receiving psychiatric care at Prijorità
- You are waiting for a psychiatric appointment
- Your mental health has changed since your last review
- You are unsure whether you need to see your psychiatrist sooner
- You are struggling emotionally and need professional guidance
- You need support between appointments
- You are experiencing increased anxiety, stress or emotional difficulty
- Trauma-related feelings or symptoms have become difficult to manage
- You are uncertain whether psychology, psychiatry or another service would be the most appropriate next step
- You want a professional mental health check-in
- You feel that something has changed but are unsure what to do next
You do not need to wait until you reach crisis point to ask for support.
Part of your Prijorità care pathway
KONTINWITÀ works particularly well because it sits within Prijorità's wider multidisciplinary mental health service. Where appropriate, the mental health nurse can help coordinate the next stage of your care with the wider team.
This creates greater continuity between appointments and helps reduce the uncertainty patients can experience when navigating mental healthcare.
This may involve:
- Psychiatry
- Psychology
- Mental health nursing
- Medical services
- ADHD and neurodevelopmental services
- Other appropriate healthcare professionals
What KONTINWITÀ does not replace
KONTINWITÀ is an additional mental health support and care-navigation service. It does not replace a psychiatric assessment, psychological therapy or emergency mental health care where these are required.
The mental health nurse does not replace your psychiatrist and does not independently alter or prescribe psychiatric medication. Where psychiatric or medical review is indicated, the appropriate clinician will be involved.
A note about our pricing
At Prijorità, people and their wellbeing always come first.
We choose to openly display our services and prices because we believe that every person seeking care deserves clarity, transparency and peace of mind. We want our clients and their families to understand the services available to them and to be aware of the associated costs before making any decisions about their care.
Displaying our prices is not about putting a monetary value on care. It is about being open and respectful towards the people who place their trust in us.
We understand that seeking support — particularly for mental health, wellbeing or ongoing medical needs — can sometimes feel overwhelming. The last thing we want is for anyone to feel uncertain or surprised by costs along the way.
Our aim is to provide compassionate, ethical and transparent care, where every person feels listened to, respected and supported.
At Prijorità, care comes first. Transparency is simply part of how we care.

- Can I use KONTINWITÀ between psychiatrist appointments?
- Yes. This is one of the important purposes of the programme. If something has changed between psychiatric appointments, KONTINWITÀ provides an opportunity to discuss your current wellbeing with a mental health professional and assess what next step may be appropriate.
- Can the nurse decide whether I should see my psychiatrist sooner?
- The nurse can assess your current presentation and identify whether further or more timely clinical input appears appropriate. Where psychiatric review is indicated, this can be communicated and coordinated with the appropriate clinical team, subject to clinical priority and availability.

- Is this therapy?
- No. KONTINWITÀ provides mental health nursing support, assessment of current needs and care navigation. It is not a replacement for formal psychological therapy where therapy is clinically indicated.
- What if I need urgent help?
- KONTINWITÀ can help identify when additional or more urgent clinical input may be needed, but it is not an emergency or crisis service. If you or someone else is at immediate risk, experiencing a serious mental health crisis or requires urgent medical attention, emergency services should be contacted directly.
You don't have to navigate the next step alone
Sometimes the most difficult part of seeking mental health support is knowing what you need next.
KONTINWITÀ gives you access to a mental health professional who can listen to what you are experiencing, assess your current needs and help determine the appropriate direction for your care.
